BAK Chan-guk is a contemporary artist based in Seoul who visualizes the narratives of human relationships through painting. By integrating heterogeneous materials such as charcoal, pearls, glass beads, and acrylic, he meticulously constructs layered compositions that translate abstract concepts—emotion, memory, trust, and distance—into a unique visual language.
His artistic inquiry revolves around a fundamental question: Can abstract values such as love and belief assume a tangible form? Series like SIGNATURE, Alief, Belief, and Composition explore this question across psychological and philosophical dimensions. Often accompanied by textual elements, his works unfold as narrative structures that invite viewers to reflect on the connections and fractures between individuals.
Since 2008, BAK has held over 20 solo exhibitions and participated in more than 30 group shows. Notable solo exhibitions include The Shape of Connection (PFS;gallery, 2024), The Perimeter of Emotion (Gallery Yeoul, Daegu, 2023), and Voyager; in Boundless Universe (Sempio Artspace, Icheon, 2022). His works have also been featured in major Korean art fairs such as ART BUSAN, BAMA, and the upcoming ART TAICHUNG (2025).
BAK's paintings are not merely visual representations—they serve as contemplative spaces where viewers can engage with the tensions between attachment and alienation, identity and memory in contemporary life. His work builds a system of “relational logic” that can be seen, felt, and experienced—structured yet deeply emotional.
His works are held in various public and private collections, including Sofitel Ambassador Seoul, LOTTE Hotel AVENUEL, LOTTE Signiel Hotel Busan, the KT Chairman’s Office, and the Sungkok Art and Culture Foundation.
BAK continues to expand his visual and narrative language through both domestic and international exhibitions and research-driven projects.
