Jamsan Solo Exhibition
21 July - 5 September, 2026
Presented by L GALLERY in collaboration with Maison JE, <AMIGO> expands Jamsan’s long-standing narrative of journey into a meditation on companionship, belonging, and the families we choose for ourselves. Throughout his practice, the artist’s recurring girl has wandered through distant landscapes, looked toward unfamiliar stars, and carried small houses filled with hope. Yet the journey in Jamsan’s work has never been defined by arrival. It is instead a way of moving through life, gathering encounters, emotions, and relationships along the way.
In <AMIGO>, the beings encountered on this journey begin to take on a new significance. Horses, owls, birds, cats, and fish are no longer simply characters inhabiting a fantastical world. They walk beside the girl, share moments of rest, accompany her through uncertainty, and gradually become part of the life she builds around herself. The exhibition shifts attention from the solitary traveler to the relationships that emerge through the act of traveling together.
The title, derived from the Spanish word for “friend,” extends this idea toward what might be described as a “chosen family.” Unlike relationships defined by blood or social convention, these bonds are formed through shared time, mutual care, and the repeated experience of remaining beside one another. Jamsan’s figures do not possess one another, nor are they bound by obligation. Their connection is instead sustained through companionship: by walking together, resting together, and quietly participating in one another’s lives.
This notion of family reflects a broader shift in how relationships are understood today. Family can also emerge among those with whom we share ordinary days—the people and beings who witness our joys, uncertainties, failures, and small achievements. In Jamsan’s work, these forms of intimacy are rarely expressed through dramatic gestures. They appear in quieter moments: sharing food, offering a prayer, exchanging affection, or simply making it through another day together.
The fantastic landscapes surrounding these figures give visual form to such ordinary emotions. Horses move across open skies, birds pass between constellations, and fish drift through spaces where memory and imagination seem to overlap. Yet these images are not intended as an escape from reality. Fantasy, for Jamsan, is a way of making visible what often remains unnoticed within everyday life—hope, loneliness, attachment, trust, and the desire to belong.
<Amigo> describes this condition as a “Fantasy of Everyday Life”: the moment an ordinary day acquires unexpected meaning, a companion becomes family, or repetition quietly turns into adventure. Through his poetic visual language, Jamsan transforms small and familiar experiences into scenes that hover between fairy tale and reality, revealing how extraordinary emotions can grow within seemingly uneventful moments.
Ultimately, <AMIGO> is less about the destination of a journey than about the relationships formed along its path. It asks what it means to live alongside others, to choose whom we continue walking with, and how shared time can gradually become a form of home.
Family is not always determined by blood. Sometimes it begins simply by walking in the same direction.
Perhaps that is where an AMIGO becomes family.
