Sangsoo Lee is a sculptor who uses line as the fundamental language of his practice, extending its movement into three-dimensional space through animal forms. His sculptures are built from minimal lines that flow, intersect, and unfold across space, exploring the distances between relationships and the subtle emotional tensions that emerge within them.

Cats, horses, flamingos, birds, and other animals frequently appear throughout his practice. Rather than functioning simply as representational subjects, they become sculptural mediators through which Lee investigates line, color, balance, and movement. His fluid curves continuously shift in appearance depending on the viewer’s position, while vivid colors visually counterbalance the physical weight of metal. In this way, his sculptures operate like drawings suspended in space, transforming the line of a two-dimensional image into a physical experience.

Lee received his B.F.A. in Sculpture from Dong-A University and his M.F.A. in Sculpture from Hongik University. He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Korea and abroad, and his works have been presented at major international art fairs including KIAF, Art Busan, Art Jakarta, ART SG, Art Central Hong Kong, Art Miami, and the LA Art Show.

His practice also extends beyond the exhibition space into architectural and public environments. Lee’s sculptures have been installed in numerous public art projects across Korea, China, and Hong Kong, including residential developments, cultural spaces, commercial environments, and outdoor sites.

Whether presented as a small-scale sculpture or a large public installation, Lee’s work consistently focuses on the relationship between line and space. Rather than simply occupying space, his sculptures introduce rhythm into it, encouraging viewers to move around the work and encounter constantly changing forms from different perspectives.
