Ok-Jin Kim
김옥진 金玉珍 (b1975, Republic of Korea)
Ok-jin Kim explores moments of stillness and temporary escape within the rhythms of everyday life. Through carefully composed scenes of pools, interiors, and architectural spaces, she transforms familiar environments into quiet psychological landscapes. Her paintings are defined by restrained compositions, clear spatial structures, and sensuous fields of color, particularly shades of blue that create a sense of distance, calm, and suspension.
Rather than depicting dramatic events, Kim focuses on the subtle experience of pause—the moment when one steps away from routine and enters a space of personal repose. Works such as Ordinary Escape, Reprieve, Sweet Idleness, and Repose reflect this interest in rest, solitude, and the emotional space that exists between everyday obligations. Through these seemingly tranquil scenes, Kim invites the viewer to slow down and reconsider stillness not as emptiness, but as a meaningful state in which perception and emotion can quietly unfold.
